Infantry Division, initially as a battalion assistant intelligence officer and later as a signals intelligence platoon leader. While serving with the 3-2 SBCT, he deployed to Iraq (OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM/NEW DAWN) from 2009 to 2010. Garrett next served at Fort Sam Houston, TX as a brigade headquarters and headquarters company commander and brigade assistant operations officer for the 470th
Brigade, during which time he earned an MA in Military History from Austin Peay State University and was selected to serve as an Army Strategist (FA59). In 2014, Garrett entered graduate school at the University of Kansas (KU), where he earned an MA in History. He has since returned to West Point to teach in the Department of History while continuing to pursue his Ph.D. in History from KU.
