​Robert McDonald is an Associate Professor of History.  A native of Connecticut, he is a graduate of the University of Virginia, Oxford University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned his Ph.D. before joining the West Point faculty in 1998.  A specialist in the American Revolution and the early American republic, his publications include several articles and essays.  he is editor of Thomas Jefferson's Military Academy: Founding West Point; Light and Liberty: Thomas Jefferson and the Power of Knowledge; and Sons of the Father: George Washington and his Protégés. He is looking forward to the publication of his book, Confounding Father: Thomas Jefferson's Image in His Own Time.
