Amanda Nagel was born in Bismarck, North Dakota and graduated high school in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Prior to becoming a history professor, she served in numerous capacities including a collegiate athlete, a librarian, and tutor. Dr. Nagel completed her MA in history from the University of Idaho in 2008 and PhD in history from the University of Mississippi in 2014. She recently finished a two year position at Winona State University in Winona, MN. While at Winona State, she taught HIST 397: United States War and Empire and HIST 397: Total War and the United States. In addition to serving on multiple historical conference panels, Dr. Nagel completed the Military History Instructor Course (MHIC) at Fort Leavenworth in 2015. She also has a background in oral history, completing a master’s thesis utilizing oral interviews as well as playing a major role in the Winona State University History Department’s oral history project titled Civil Rights and Vietnam: Competing Voices of the Baby Boom Generation.
