MAJ Matt Cohen was born in California and graduated from the United States Military Academy in 2002.  During the first part of his Army career, he served in armor and mechanized infantry units at Fort Hood, TX, Baghdad (Al Dora) and Arab Jabour, Iraq, and the Republic of Korea.  After leaving the Army, he worked in the private sector as a consultant for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and as a counselor for the Army Wounded Warrior Program at Ft. Riley, KS.  He simultaneously attended graduate school at Kansas State University, where he studied contemporary security topics and wrote his thesis on security, refugee, and ethnic minority issues in the Vietnamese Central Highlands. After returning to active duty, MAJ Cohen attended the FA59 (Army Strategist) qualification course and subsequently served as an East Asia focused strategic plans officer at Fort Shafter, HI. His academic interests include the Vietnam War, Cold War, East Asia, and American foreign relations.
