LTC Black is a Field Artillery officer currently assigned as an Assistant Professor and Executive in the Department of History at West Point.  In his previous assignment he taught in the Strategy and Policy Department at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, RI.  Prior to that, he served in numerous assignments with the 3rd Infantry Division based out of Fort Stewart, GA; he deployed to Iraq twice during his time with the 3rd ID.  LTC Black previously served as an Instructor and Assistant Professor in the History Department at West Point from 2002-2005.  In 2003, he deployed to Iraq in the opening months of OIF, where he served on the staff of an Artillery Brigade for a period of three months.   As a junior officer, LTC Black served in rocket Artillery units in Korea and Fort Bragg, NC, including fifteen months in command of a firing battery in Korea from 1999-2000.
