CPT Richard S. Lovering was born in Columbus, Ohio and graduated from The Ohio State University in 2007.  He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 89th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade, 10th Mountain at Fort Polk, LA, an assignment that included duty as a platoon leader, troop executive officer, troop commander, and assistant operations officer.  With 3-89 CAV, he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (2008) and Operation Enduring Freedom (2010-2011, 2013-2014).  While in Afghanistan, he also served as an advisor to the operations officer of an Afghan National Army brigade.  Following redeployment, he attended the Maneuver Captains Career Course at Fort Benning, GA, entered graduate school at the University of Southern Mississippi, earned an MA in history, and was assigned to West Point to teach in the Department of History.
