MAJ Dan Horst is a Civil Affairs Officer and an Instructor of International History. He received his commission from West Point in 2002 as an Armor officer and has served in a variety of leadership and staff positions in Fort Carson, CO, Iraq, and Korea (Tank Platoon Leader, Scout Platoon Leader, Assistant S-3, Troop Executive Officer). MAJ Horst subsequently transitioned to the Civil Affairs Branch, in which he completed a year of training in Fort Bragg, NC and completed tours in Afghanistan as a Civil Affairs Staff officer and a Team Leader attached to Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force Afghanistan (CJSTOF-A). After completing graduate school, MAJ Horst has been teaching at West Point for over two years and also serves as the Head Academic Counselor, Officer in Charge of the Cadet Community for Civil Military Operations (C3MO), and led cadets on a one-week trip to India.
