MAJ Dan Horst is an Instructor of International History. MAJ Horst received his commission from West Point in 2002 as an Armor officer and first got assigned to 3rd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado. He deployed to Iraq in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM in April, 2003, where he took over a tank platoon. Upon redeployment in March, 2004, MAJ Horst became a Brigade Recon Troop scout platoon leader and then an assistant operations officer. MAJ Horst Later got assigned to 4th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, in Camp Hovey, Korea, as a Troop Executive Officer. After attending the Armor Captains Career Course, MAJ Horst transitioned to Civil Affairs (CA) and completed a year of CA, regional studies, and language training in Russian. As a member of the 95th Civil Affairs Brigade, USASOC, MAJ Horst completed two tours in Southern Afghanistan, first as a Task Force S-9 in 2009 and then as a Team Leader in 2010. MAJ Horst then proceeded to graduate school and then to West Point, where he has been teaching for his third year.
