Enlisted in 1973 and served as a armor crewmember in Germany 1974-1977. Commissioned in 1982, Brigham Young University ROTC. Served three years with the 19th Special Forces Group, Airborne, 1980-1982 during cadet years. After Armor Officer Basic Course, attended Flight School at Ft. Rucker, Alabama. Flew several Army aircraft, UH-1, OH-58, AH-1, and fixed-wing, U-21 and C-12. Served in Air Cavalry Troop, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, and C Troop, 4th Squadron 1984-1986. Served as Airplane Company Executive Officer at Davison Aviation Command, Fort Belvoir. Commanded D Company, 4th Bn, 4th Aviation, 4th Infantry Division 1991-1992, and later served with the USAR at 361st Field Training Regiment, 91st Training Division (Field Exercise). In 1995, transferred to National Guard AGR program and commanded West Jordan Regional Flight Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, US Army Operational Support Command. Served as operations officer with the Joint Operations Support Airlift Center, Scott AFB, Illinois. In 1998, appointed Chief Historian, National Guard Bureau in Arlington, Virginia. Retired from the Army in 2002 with 25 years of active and reserve service.
