Colonel David A. Wallace
Department of Law Deputy Department Head
Colonel Wallace recently returned from serving as a law mentor for the Law Department at the National Military Academy of Afghanistan (NMAA.) About his experience, he says "a privilege to be with them and do whatever we can to be of assistance. This is very much a partnership and collaboration." He observed classes and worked closely with the faculty, sharing ideas and his experiences. He also taught their cadets several sessions on the Law of Armed Conflict, in addition to some English classes.
The USMA Department of Law has been sending mentors to NMAA since 2004. The National Military Academy of Afghanistan Academy opened in 2005 and has graduated two classes so far.
A West Point professor for 10 years, Col. Wallace teaches and directs the Law of War class. His academic interests include the privatization of warfare and the use of contractors on the battlefield.
