This course will take you on a tour of some of West Point’s greatest features and is broken into 2 loops (appx 10mi and 3mi). You start at Michie stadium next to Lusk Reservoir and then head down towards Thayer gate. From there, you turn left onto Thayer road and enjoy a gorgeous mile pinned between the Hudson River and Colonel’s Row. After you run under and past Mahan and Thayer Halls (our primary academic buildings), you are treated to a great view along Trophy Point. From there, you head down ODIA hill and run along the base of the Hudson where the cadets take their 2 mile PT test. You’ll pass both the indoor (Gillis Field House) and outdoor track (Shea Stadium) before heading up a steady climb and back to Washington Road. At the top you’ll run past the West Point cemetery where hundreds of the Long Grey Line’s finest rest. From there it’s a scenic view of Lee Housing where you’ll reach the 10k mark before heading up towards Keller Army Community Hospital and turning into Grey Ghost and New Brick housing. As you leave the housing you can breathe easy on a comfy stretch headed back towards the cadet area before making a strong climb up Delafield Road and exiting back by Michie stadium. You finish the 1st (and largest loop) after circling around Lusk Reservoir and crossing the stone bridge.
The second loop is a fast 5K back towards Thayer gate then another great view of the Hudson along Thayer road. This time after passing thru Trophy Point, you’ll continue towards the Catholic Chapel and head up the hill for a final loop of Lusk Reservoir before entering Michie stadium to kick to the finish line at the end of the field.
Water Points: start/finish, 2.5mi, 5.5mi, 6.5mi, 8.5mi, 10mi, 12mi
Latrines: start/finish, 2.5mi, 12mi
This race is dedicated to those members of the Long Grey Line whom have gone to war and made the ultimate sacrifice. Each mile marker will memorialize different fallen comrades from all of our nation’s wars as a tribute. We honor them as individuals as we sweat and test ourselves on this challenging, but beautiful course. We celebrate what they stood for as we build camaraderie and patriotism thru friendly competition.
“On the fields of friendly strife are sown the seeds that on other days and other fields will bear the fruits of victory.”
- General Douglas MacArthur
