Luke M. Gerdes is a Minerva Fellow, housed in the Sociology Program of the United State Military Academy's Department of Behavioral Science and Leadership. He came to USMA after spending a year conducting research at the Strategic Studies Institute at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, PA. He earned his PhD in Public and International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh in 2012. He also holds a Masters in Public and International Affairs, with an emphasis on Security and Intelligence Studies, from the same institution, as well as an undergraduate degree in American Studies from Yale University. His Minerva research focuses on radicalization and radical groups in Southeast Asia, and he will teach a course on the same subject in the Spring of 2013. He lives outside Cornwall, NY.
