Army Men’s Volleyball places second in Navy Fall Classic

After 13 hours of competitions and seven volleyball matches, the Army Men’s Volleyball team had an outstanding start to their 2013 season finishing 2nd at the Navy Fall Classic in Annapolis, Md., Oct. 12-14.

Army competed in their first tournament of the season hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy with 14 teams competing. West Point traveled with two teams, the Army A team and Army B team. The Army B team made their debut with five of its eight members from the Class of 2016. The Army B team ranked 3rd out of pool play and advanced to the quarterfinals but lost to Rutgers A, who advanced to the semifinals to play the University of Virginia. Army A team finished 2nd out of pool play and advanced to the quarterfinals where they beat the University of Pennsylvania.

Army A continued to the semifinals where they defeated the Rutgers B team in three games to advance to the championship round. Rutgers A also continued after defeating UVA in the semifinals to face Army A in the championship match. After a hard fought match, the Army A-team lost to Rutgers in two games and finished 2nd overall. Navy A lost to the Rutgers B team in the quarterfinals.

This weekend the Army Men's Volleyball team travels to James Madison University to compete in the 7th annual Derrick Beckner Memorial Tournament, one of the most competitive club tournaments on the east coast consisting of 30 teams.
