Mission:
OPPA collects and analyzes all data in support of the decision making processes, integrates all
assessment activities to provide an institutional level assessment of both cadet outcome and
institutional effectiveness, and synchronizes and integrates the Military Academy's planning efforts.
Develops, coordinates, and integrates the Cadet Leader Development System.
Vision:
West Point is publicly recognized for its planning and assessment, which benchmark
excellence for other American colleges and universities.
OPPA is recognized for excellence
in managing and sharing data, unparalleled by any other university institutional research
office. Its analysis is trusted and sought before any major decision is made at the Academy.
Goals:
- Provide for the education and training of the Academy personnel in support of the leader
development systems, strategic planning, and assessment processes
- Maintain a leader development system, grounded in leadership theory, and backed with a
system of longitudinal assessment
- Create and effectively archive the annual history of the Academy, recording major events
and decisions to support future decision making processes
- Maintain a family of Academy policies that remain consistent with all internal and
external policies
- Maintain a living assessment process that provides accurate and timely data to support
every decision process at the Academy and that effectively archives the assessments for
historical use
- Manage a strategic planning process that ensures the Academy’s plans are consistent with
the future needs of the Army and are integrated to ensure synergies are achieved
- Human subjects of research are protected through the administration of the Human Research
Protection Program (HRPP)
