Physical Science Technician; Summary of Duties: 1.) Supervision of cadets participating in laboratory rotations at the physical science laboratories standardized for core physics and advanced physics majors; 2) laboratory set-up in nuclear engineering, health physics instrumentation, laser labs and photonics when required; 3) Responsible for equipment management, equipment provisioning and experimentation, planning and execution of laboratory experiments for data generation and data verification; 4) Plans and performs experiments with maximum autonomy to generate, compile, assemble, edit, interpret, and analyze data acquired in a variety of laboratory settings for onward recommendations to effect experimentation set-up adoption, modification or restructuring of existing or aging modules; 5)Independently performs experiments to validate new procedures in support the nuclear engineering programs and co-manage the linear accelerator for research and instruction on topics involving radiation protection, radiation shielding, nuclear reactor science and neutronics; 6)Sets-up laboratory areas for instruction and guide instructors and cadets in the proper use of all laboratory equipments; 7) Guides cadets during laboratory periods, maintain and repair any associated equipment; 8)Procures, receives, stores and maintains required equipment, materials and supplies in support of programs in laboratory physics; 9)Tests materials for safety, validate accuracy of given directions, and assesses the potential for achieving expected and required results of material use prior to actual use by cadets; 10) Serves as the environmental compliance officer as well as hazardous material safety officer – ensuring the department is in compliance with all federal, DOD, Army, USMA, and NY State regulations and procedures. 11) Serves as the department’s primary hand-receipt holder for laboratory equipment and associated apparatus; 12) Maintains accountability of all non-expendable and durable laboratory properties in the department.
