Major Reginald (Reggie) Rice is a 2nd year instructor in the Core Physics Program with the Department of Physics and Nuclear Engineering. After receiving his commission in 2001, he completed the Engineer Officer’s Basic Course. He was then assigned to Fort Leonard Wood, as a Platoon Leader in C Company, 5th Engineer Battalion where he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Following redeployment, Major Rice stayed on as HHC XO until December 2004 when he moved to the Assistant Operations Officer of the 5th Engineer Battalion. He served in that position until he attended the Engineer Captains Career Course. Upon graduating the Career Course, he joined the 1/345th Engineer Regiment as an Observer/Controller Team Chief. At the end of those two years he assumed duties as the 41st Engineer Company (Route Clearance) Commander, 1st Engineer Battalion, at Fort Riley, Kansas and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Major Rice’s awards include the Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC), the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (2nd award), the Army Achievement Medal (2 OLC), the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal Campaign Star (3rd award), the Afghanistan Campaign Medal Campaign Star (2nd award),the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd award), the Army Service ribbon, a Meritorious Unit Citation (1 OLC), a Valorous Unit Award, a NATO Medal, and a Combat Action Badge.
