Frequently used school acronyms

DoDEA -- Department of Defense Education Activity – DoDEA provides worldwide education to approximately 178,000 eligible Department of Defense military and civilian family members from the preschool level through the 12th grade.

DDESS -- The Department of Defense Domestic Dependents Elementary and Secondary Schools is the stateside counterpart to the Department of Defense Dependents School. Thirteen school systems ithin DDESS serve 38,000 students in 65 schools.

NY-VA DDESS -- New York and Virginia Domestic Dependents Elementary and Secondary Schools is one of the DDESS systems.

The West Point Elementary School and West Point Middle School are both on the United States Military Academy Installation and together are one school system in West Point, New York. This school system provides education for family members living on the installation.

The Quantico Marine Base and the Dahlgren Naval Surface Warfare Center are combined as one school system in Virginia.
