WEST POINT, N.Y. -- New cadets from the Class of 2006 will conclude their Cadet Basic Training with a 15-mile road
march from Lake Frederick to West Point Tuesday.
The march back begins at 3 a.m. when the new cadets depart Lake Frederick.
They will travel along various trails and a portion of Route 293, crossing Route 9W to the West Point Golf Course. The march, carried out in tactical formation, is the culmination of six weeks of Cadet Basic Training or "Beast Barracks."
Cadet Basic Training is a rigorous program emphasizing physical fitness, military customs and courtesies, familiarization with West Point’s honor code and leadership training that began on July 1.
During the march, 148 academy graduates ranging from the classes of 1945 through 1994 will join the Class of 2006.
The graduates participate in the march back to demonstrate their support for the new class, recognize its accomplishments and to connect with the future members of the Long Gray Line.
All will pass in review in front of Quarters 100, the superintendent’s residence, at noon.
For the new cadets, this acknowledges their successful completion of one of the most demanding challenges they will encounter during their four-year cadet experience.
New cadets will be officially accepted into the Corps of Cadets during the Acceptance Parade scheduled for Aug. 17 at 10 a.m. on the Plain.
