Third through sixth singles players sweep to pad Army's 5-2 win

Army rode the wave of a sweep in the bottom half of the singles matches to a 5-2 win over Ivy League power Dartmouth College Sunday in a non-league match in Hanover, N.H. The Black Knights improved to 5-0 for the year.
The first doubles team of seniors Marshall Clay and Andy Burdette were 8-4 winners over their opponents and the third doubles team of junior Sonny Avichal and sophomore Matt Thinnes topped their opponents 8-2 to earn the point for the Black Knights.
Dartmouths top two singles players were too strong for Army. Clay dropped a three-set match to Jeff Sloves (6-2, 6-7, 7-5) and freshman Kent Ball fell to Neal Bobba (7-5, 6-4). However, the Black Knights bottom four singles players all picked up wins to clinch the match. Avichal, freshman Rafael Albornoz, sophomore Arnie Albornoz and Burdette were all winners at third through sixth singles respectively.
Avichal and the Albornoz brothers were straight-set winners.
Burdette went to three sets before putting away his opponent.
The win marked the second consecutive triumph for Army over the Big Green and its first win in Hanover since 1969. Before last years 5-2 win at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center, Dartmouth had won 29 straight matches against the Black Knights dating back to 1970.
Army returns to action Feb. 24 when it hosts Yale.
