Senior captain Jamie Glassford won three events and the Black Knights dominated the field events, but it was not enough to overcome Navy in the sprints as the Mids came from behind to beat the Army women’s indoor track team 100-81 Sunday afternoon at Gillis Field House here.

Glassford broke the tape in both the 55-meter dash and the 200m, then turned in a personal best with a leap of 18 feet – 7 1/2 inches in the long jump to take first place in all three events. However, Glassford’s two wins in the sprints were the only running events that Army captured as Navy swept the 400m, 500m, 800m, 1000, one-mile and 3000m races to earn the bulk of its points at the tail end of the dual meet. Sophomore Kim Allen supported Glassford finishing second in the 55m and third in the 200m but it was not enough. Junior Andrea Peters was runner-up to Glassford in the long jump with a leap of 17'-11".

Seniors Carlys Romano and Angela Boyle were victors in the field events along with sophomore Lauren Bolte. Romano put the shot 45'-6 1/2" to win that event while Boyle threw the 20-lbs. weight 54'-7 1/4" to take that competition. Bolte cleared 5'-5" in the high jump to earn first-place accolades for the Black Knights.

Army swept the top three spots in both the shot put and the weight throw. Freshman Sarah Fields was right behind Romano putting the shot an even 40' and sophomore Ashley Albritton was third with a throw of 39'-9 3/4". In the weight throw, Albritton was a second-place winner with a toss of 50'-9 1/4" and teammate junior Christine Giacone was third with a throw of 41'-3 3/4".

Navy’s Amanda Hasenauer, the defending Patriot League champion and an NCAA qualifier a year ago, took top honors in the pole vault. But Army’s talented duo of freshman Anna Diko and junior Erica Clanton finished second and third respectively to offset the Mids victory. Diko cleared 11'-3 3/4" to tie her personal best. Hasenauer went over 12'-6".

Army will train this week for the Patriot League Championships today through Sunday at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. Last year, the women finished third. The Black Knights’ women have not won the Patriot League indoor title since 1997.
