Juniors Calvin Smith and Clay Schwabe doubled and classmate Devon Capps had a hand in two wins to lead Army’s unbeaten men’s indoor track team to a 106-75 romp over Navy snapping a three-year losing streak to the Mids.

Army, closing out its winter campaign at 3-0, captured five of the six field events and eight of the 11 running events to dominate this year’s meeting.

Smith captured the 55-meter dash in 6.54. Six events later, he led a one-two finish in the 200-meter dash with his 22.48 clocking to best junior teammate Omari Thompson’s time of 22.68.

Schwabe, a distance runner, clocked a 2:26.71 in the 1000-meter run and won the mile in 4:07.13. Capps finished first in the 400-meter dash in 49.58, and his 47.4 clocking as anchor on the 4x400-meter relay lifted Army to the victory in that event.

Also winning on the track were freshman Trevor Hopper, 55-meter high hurdles (7.68), and junior Will Wyche who met the IC4A qualifying time of 8:20.68 in the 3000-meter run.

Joining the winners’ circle in the field events were senior Steve Elgan, high jump (6-7), freshman Jeff Weaver, long jump (22-6 1/4), Zach Harrison, triple jump (47-2 1/4), senior John Ruch, shot put (54-10 1/4), and sophomore Alberto Castro, 35-lb weight (54-11 1/2). Army went one-two in the long jump and shot put.

"It was just a good day," said head coach Jerry Quiller. "We started off with momentum in the field events and the rest of the team picked up that electricity and just got fired up.
