Understanding West Point's shuttle bus operations

By Anthony Wilcher
DOL-Plans/Operations & Policies

The shuttle bus service at USMA exists to serve the community safely, while providing access to key agencies for USMA employees and reducing congestion within the Central Parking Area by servicing the major parking lots (Buffalo Soldier Field and the old PX).

Shuttle bus service starts at 6:15 a.m. and ends at 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday. Pick-ups/drop-offs are scheduled every 30 minutes. Bus drivers will stop to pick up and discharge riders at non-bus stop locations when a passenger signals for the driver to stop. The driver will only stop if it is safe to stop, otherwise, the driver will proceed to a safe location and stop. Shuttle buses will not depart bus stops before the scheduled time and will not arrive later than five minutes after the scheduled time.

Accidents, funerals, cadet movement, construction (programmed and unprogrammed) and inclement weather may delay the shuttle service. During extreme weather, for example when code red has been established, shuttle bus service to buildings 681, 667A and the Child Development Center or H/Lot is suspended. All other areas will continue to be serviced. When conditions improve allowing for safe travel, service will resume to the other areas.

Passengers should wait at the bus stop not inside buildings or vehicles. Passengers are not allowed to ride the bus while wearing roller skates, roller blades, ice skates or ski boots. The sharp edges of skis/ice skates pose a safety hazard to the driver and other passengers.

The schedule is posted at all stops and is available on the DOL Web page at www.usma.edu/logistics. Users should familiarize themselves with the schedule to avoid unnecessary delays or wait times.
