The West Point Rangers blasted the Blind Brook Warriors 18-4 June 10 at Doubleday Field here to improve to 4-1 on the season. The contest was shortened to seven innings by the 12-run mercy rule.

Sunday’s scheduled doubleheader against the Cortland Alleycats was rained out and will be rescheduled.

The Rangers are an over-30 staff-and-faculty baseball team that plays in the wooden-bat Westchester/Putnam County men’s senior baseball league.

Right-handed pitcher Stu Hirstein threw two innings against the Blind Brook Warriors June 10 before leaving the game with a shoulder injury.

Four Rangers pitchers combined for the win. Lefty starter Jeff Logan (4-0) hurled two scoreless innings to earn the win.

Righties Stu Hirstein and Paul Ashcraft followed, each pitching two innings. Hirstein left with an injured shoulder, and Ashcraft gave up all four Warrior runs.

Righty Wayne Schepens finished up with a scoreless seventh.

Ranger second baseman Pete Lofy led a 15-hit Ranger attack, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a three-run inside-the-park home run over the center fielder’s head.

Schepens, who followed Lofy in the line-up, blasted a long, solo shot over the left field fence to highlight the remaining offense as five Rangers had multiple hits on the day.

The Warriors (0-6) scored their four runs in the fifth inning and otherwise never threatened.

Player/co-coach Todd Henry said the effort was the "best defensive game we have played." The Rangers only committed two infield errors on the day.

The Rangers hit the road Sunday for a doubleheader versus the Westchester Yankees.
