Donation bags to be distributed
In preparation for the holiday gift basket program, the Boy Scouts will be picking up the donation bags left with residents last weekend on Sunday. All proceeds will go to soldiers and civilians within the West Point community. Questions should be directed to Col. Michael Jones at 938-5706.

Jazzercise classes
DCFA offers jazzercise classes four times weekly. Classes are Mondays and Wednesdays, 9-10 a.m. at the Youth Center; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the West Point Middle School gym. For more information or to register, call Monique Sanders at 446-2186.

Dinner scheduled
The annual dinner of the West Point Society in this area is set for Saturday at the West Point Club starting at 7 p.m. Anyone interested in attending should contact Russ Vernon for details and ticket information at

All in the Brass Family concert
The USMA Chamber Music Series will continue Sunday at 3 p.m. in the West Point Jewish Chapel featuring a trumpet and trombone recital that is free and open to the public.

Currently there is a 100 percent vehicle and photo ID check at the academy gates. Due to changing security requirements at West Point, it is suggested that those interested in attending contact the band’s hotline at (845)-938-2617 before leaving for the concert.

College registrations being taken
Registration is underway for the spring semester for students in the Master’s of Public Administration program offered by John Jay College at West Point.

At this time, applications for admission into the program are also being accepted. GREs are not required for admission.

Employment briefing for spouses
The Army Community Service Employment Readiness Program will offer a briefing for military spouses that will allow them to find out about area employers, potential employment opportunities and application procedures while meeting key human resource representatives. The briefing is Nov. 28 from 2 to 2:30 p.m. in the ACS training room, bldg. 622. Registration is required so call 938-4621 to reserve a space.

Representatives that will be present include the West Point Civilian Personnel Advisory Center and Non-Appropriated Funds, Hotel Thayer and the Association of Graduates. Don’t forget to bring your resumes along.

Family nature series
Learn how birds get ready for winter in a program at Sterling Forest State Park at 7 p.m. tonight. This program is recommended for families with children between the ages of 7 and 10. Admission is free, but preregistration is required because of limited seating. Participants should meet at the information center. To register, call (845) 351-5907.

Movie to be shown
The movie, "Flirtation Walk," will be shown at Eisenhower Hall Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Snacks and beverages will be available for purchase. The movie is open to the West Point community including family members, civilians and cadets.

Commissary hours for Thanksgiving
The West Point commissary will be open Monday and closed Thursday and Nov. 23 to observe Thanksgiving. Please note the changes.

Thanksgiving dinner at club
The West Point Club will serve Thanksgiving dinner Thursday with seatings at noon and 2:30 p.m. Advanced reservations and ticket sales are required and can be made at the membership office Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Dance class announced
A new class offering contemporary dance to boys in first- through fourth-grade is being offered at the Youth Center. Call Maryanne at 938-8897 for details.

Santa suits for rent
Youth Services will be taking reservations for Santa suit rentals starting Monday. Suits will be available from Nov. 26 until Christmas. Call Julie Vanderberg at 938-8625 for details.

Story hour offered
The West Point post library offers preschool story hour every Tuesday through Dec. 4 at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for all West Point community children ages three to five. Pre-registration is required and can be done by calling 938-2974 or visiting the library in bldg. 622.

The holidays are fast approaching and it’s not too early to make reservations for your cat or dog to stay at Morgan Farm kennel while you travel or party. Call 938-3926 for rates or information or e-mail questions to yp9024@usma.edu.

Gospel Choir to perform
The Cadet Gospel Choir will perform Tuesday, 7 p.m. at the Hotel Thayer in conjunction with the West Harlem Art Exhibit that runs Saturday through Dec. 2. The exhibit showcases African and Latino artwork and is open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Confirmation candidates of Most Holy Trinity Chapel are selling Christmas wreaths to help feed families in need this holiday season. Twenty-two inch Maine balsam wreaths will be available by Dec. 1. Holiday hours for vehicle registration
The vehicle registration office at the Provost Marshal’s Office will be closed Nov. 22 and 23, Dec. 24 and 31 for the holidays.

Bicentennial photo exhibit to open
The Bicentennial photo exhibit will be located on the sixth level of Eisenhower Hall starting Monday through the end of January.

Post exchange information
The West Point PX will be selling live Christmas trees and wreaths starting Nov. 23 in the garden shop.

Christmas show at O’Neill announced
Andy Cooney, Irish America’s Favorite Son, will bring his Christmas Show to the James I. O’Neill High School auditorium Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. Hosted by the Sacred Heart School alumni association, this is a benefit for Sacred Heart School. Additional performers will include Dermot O’Brien and Aideen O’Dell. Call the rectory at 446-4609 for tickets and information.

"Nutcracker" to be performed
The Orange County Ballet Theater’s 34th Anniversary production of Tchaikovsky’s classical holiday ballet, "The Nutcracker" will take place at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 15 and 16 on the stage of Washingtonville High School.

All seats are reserved. Tickets can be obtained by calling the Orange County Ballet Theater after 3:30 p.m. at 562-6750.

AER scholarships
As a secondary mission, Army Emergency Relief helps families with the costs, for dependent children, of post secondary undergraduate level education, vocational training and preparation for acceptance by service academies. For academic year 2001-2002, 1885 individuals received scholarships that totaled $2,323,800.

Power outage at Lichtenberg
There will be an electrical outage Tuesday at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center so that a tranformer can be replaced ant the Gross Sports Center can be connected. This outage was rescheduled from Nov. 14.
