Five champions were crowned Nov. 5 and 6 when the cadet fall intramural championships took place.

The cross country, soccer and football titles were decided Nov. 5.

The F1 Firehouse ran off with the cross country crown placing the top two runners to earn the title.

Seniors Scott Stroiney and Todd Rode finished 1-2 to give the Firehouse 41 points to easily outdistance the second place G3 Gophers with 114 points.

Junior Rob Knessner booted home the winning goal on a penalty kick with 10 seconds remaining to lift the C4 Cowboys to victory 2-1 over the H1 Root Hawgs. Freshman Dan Lannetti put the Cowboys up 1-0 midway thru the second half on an assist by sophomore Amber Raub.

The F2 Zoo won the football championship by holding off the B4 Buffaloes 14-6.

Zoo senior Blair Hahm broke around the left end at midfield and took it the distance in the second quarter for a 6-0 lead.

Senior Dave Cibik punched in the two-point conversion to boost the lead to 8-0.

The Buffaloes countered with a 4-yard touchdown catch by sophomore tailback Mike Stevens from classmate Troy Baugh.

The Zoo defense stuffed the two-point conversion run attempt by junior John Bartusiak to preserve the 8-6 lead.

Cibik made it 14-6 on a 14-yard sweep to the right side.

The score was set up by a nifty 60-yard kickoff return by senior Jesse Jones.

The two-point conversion pass-attempt fell incomplete.

The victory was secured by the solid Zoo defense, lead by senior free safety Nick Kardonsky who batted down a fourth-down attempt and killed another late drive with an interception.

Action Nov. 6 decided the 3-on-3 basketball championship and the boxing title.

The G2 Gators won the basketball title with a 39-35 win over the G4 Guppies in Hayes Gym.

Gators sophomore swingman Luis Eiteene led all scorers with 15 points. Freshman teammate Florian Strambu and junior Andrew Dantoni added 13 and 9 points, respectively.

Junior Pat Sullivan’s 12 points paced the Guppies. Senior Rob Anders added 9.

The Guppies fought back from down 17-6 in the first half to tie it at 17 with 3:33 left before the break.

The Gators managed a 21-20 lead at the half and went on a 9-3 run to open the second half.

Anders and Sullivan rained down a flurry of three-pointers to pull the Guppies within one point twice but couldn’t overcome the Gators more balanced attack.

The boxing championship went the distance as the B3 Bandits fought back from down 2-0 to win the match 3-2 over the E1 Vikings.

Bandit sophomore Duane Mantle earned a unanimous decision over E1 junior Doug Lindsay to clinch the title in the heavyweight bout.

Wins by E1 sophomore Henry Chavez over B3 senior Benjamin Wright by unanimous decision at 145 pounds, and Viking junior William Shoaf’s split decision at 160 pounds over Bandit senior Eric Wigley gave the Vikings a seemingly insurmountable 2-0 lead.

But B3 sophomore Peter White’s second-round knockout of E1 senior Scott Patton pulled the Bandits to within 2-1. Then B3 senior Bryan Hart’s unanimous decision over Viking sophomore David Sisk squared the match at two.

Mantle knocked down Lindsay in the first and second rounds of the heavyweight bout and was penalized a point in the third round for an illegal blow to the back of his opponent’s head.

A bloodied Lindsay held off Mantle after the second knockdown taking him to the ropes twice in the third round but it wasn’t enough.
