Family Symposium needs volunteers

The annual USMA Family Symposium is Feb. 20-21. Facilitators and recorders are needed. There will be a professional training class for those interested in performing in these functions Jan. 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Civilian Personnel Classroom, Bldg. 626. Free daycare will be provided. Call 938-3655 to sign up or for more information.

Delegates are also needed. Interested individuals who live or work at West Point are welcome as delegates or welcome to submit an issue. Topics to be discussed include employment and transition, children and youth, community services, single soldier support, health care, teens, DoD civilians and housing and public works. AFAP seeks teens with opinions

Teens from throughout the community are needed to participate in the Army Family Action Plan Teen Symposium scheduled Feb. 9 from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Youth Center. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. Register at Youth Services or with the installation volunteer coordinator by Monday. Call 938-8379 for details.

Mandatory pre-separation counseling

If you are a soldier transitioning from the military, it is mandatory to attend pre-separation counseling with the transition assistance program here -- a localized version of ACAP. The rule of thumb is to schedule your counseling 180 days in advance of your separation/retirement date. Pre-separation counseling is scheduled for the second and fourth Tuesday of each month starting Jan. 29 at 2 p.m. in bldg. 622. Call 938-5658 to schedule a date of your choice

Sunday school classes resume

Protestant Sunday School for ages three to adult has resumed on the third floor of Thayer Hall starting at 9 a.m. A nursery is provided and parking is available on Thayer Roof to vehicles with proper DoD decals. Four adult classes are being offered -- Integrating Faith and Profession, The Book of First Thessalonians, The Relation of Scriptures and Family Relations and the Old Testament. Channel 8 changes to Channel 23

Changes in programming at Time-Warner Cable have moved the Command Information Cable TV from Channel 8 to Channel 23.

Girl Scouts seek donations for ‘Project Linus’

The West Point Girl Scouts will be participating in "Project Linus" as blanketeers by making blankets and quilts. These blankets will be given to children in Orange County who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need. The Girl Scouts will be collecting yarn, fabric (cotton, flannel or polar fleece) and batting for quilts at the Commissary and PX.

In conjunction with the O’Neill High School Students Against Destructive Decisions club, they will have a collection box in Highland Falls at the Town Hall as well. Boxes will be in place for donations through Feb. 9.

February 16, National Blanket Making Day, the Scouts will gather to make and assemble the quilts and blankets from donations received. For more information, call Erica Koonmen at 446-2874.

WPWC to hold fashion show

The West Point Womens’ Club will host a fashion show scheduled at the Hotel Thayer Feb. 26. This is a dinner/show package and reservations are required by noon Feb. 21.

Models will display examples of day wear, prom wear, evening formal wear and bridal selections.

Dinner starts at 6 p.m.; the show follows at 7:30 p.m.

Chamber Music Series continues

The USMA Band’s Chamber Music Series will continue with a flute recital given by Master Sgt. Lynn Cunningham and her son, Kevin, Feb. 3 at 2:30 p.m. at the West Point Jewish Chapel. The concert is free and open to the public. Cunningham will be joined by her son on two works, exhibiting his talent on saxophone in "Les treteaux" and as a singer in Franz Schubert’s "Ihr Blumlein all." Kevin is an all-state band participant and spent the summer of 2001 studying voice at Tanglewood.

Due to the 100 percent vehicle and photo I.D. card inspection at Stony Lonesome and Thayer gates, those planning to attend should allow extra time. ‘Discipline is Not a Dirty Word’ workshop

The Child Development Center will be holding a parent workshop titled, "Discipline in Not a Dirty Word," Wed., from 6-8 p.m. The workshop is geared toward parents of children ages 18 months to 5 years. Parents should call Kim Tague at 938-3921 by today to make reservations.

Creative scrapbooking classes offered

Learn how to safely preserve your memories and family history in a meaningful and beautiful way during creative scrapbooking classes at the multi-crafts shop, bldg. 626. You’ll learn many techniques for organizing, cropping, laying out, mounting, journalizing and much more. Bring six to eight photos to the first class you attend. Instructor Tanya Waller will provide all other necessary materials to complete your first page.

Classes are scheduled at 7 p.m. on the following days: Wed., Feb. 16 and 20, March 6 and 20 and April 3 and 17. You can start at anytime. Call 938-4812 for more information or to pre-register.

Cultural adaptation class

ACS offers free support classes for foreign-born spouses that includes English as a second language, joining Army life and culture, educational resources and other helpful adjustment skills. Classes are the second and fourth Thursdays of each month from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. For more info., call 938-2519.

Spring break animal boarding

Marriage renewal workshop/dance

Most Holy Trinity is sponsoring a marriage renewal workshop/dinner dance Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. Daycare will be provided at the CDC during the workshop. Dinner and dance will be held at the Hotel Thayer. Evangelist to speak at Cadet Chapel

Dr. Luis Palau, world-reknowned evangelist, will speak at the Cadet Chapel Feb. 3 starting at 10:30 a.m. Sometimes called "The Billy Graham of South America," Palau has spoken to hundreds of millions of people in 104 nations through radio and television broadcasts, and face-to-face to 14 million people in 69 nations over the past 30 years. He has also authored 44 books and booklets in English and Spanish. Everyone is invited to attend. Game Show Mania at WP Club

Law has been practicing . . . Systems claims they’re a shoe-in for the grand prize . . . EE&CS reportedly said, "We’ve got the juice, are you ready for our byte?" But no one is counting out the women, as West Point organizations go head-to-head in "Game Show Mania" tonight starting at 7:30 p.m. at the West Point Club.

Teams include: the Law Dept., Social Sciences, EE&CS, the West Point Women’s Club, SCMPE, DRM and Systems Engineering.
