| Senior team captain Troy Pazcoguin, shown here on parallel bars, took home three titles Sunday. He turned in Army's highest mark of the meet (9.5) on vault, and a 8.5 on parellel bars and floor exercise. |
Senior Troy Pazcoguin captured individual honors in three events, and junior Dustin Greenhill was first in another along with winning all-around as Army’s gymnastics team recorded a season-high in outpointing Springfield College 200.5-194.375 in the dual meet opener for both Sunday afternoon.
Pazcoguin turned in Army’s highest mark of the meet in recording a 9.15 on vault. He led a one- two finish on parallel bars and a sweep of the top three spots on high bar, turning in season highs of 8.5 and 8.4, respectively. The team captain was also runner-up on floor exercise (8.5) finishing behind junior teammate Matt Eckerman who posted an 8.9.
Greenhill, first in the all-around scoring with a season and team-best 50.05, rounded out Army’s winners with a first on pommel horse (8.4) as the Black Knights captured five of the six individual events. He tied with classmate John Robella, finishing a close second to Pazcoguin on high bar (8.3) after being edged by one-tenth of a point. He was third on still rings (8.4) and shared that spot on parallel bars (8.3).
Rounding out Army’s top point producers with third-place efforts were sophomore Ashan McNealy on pommel horse (8.3) and Eckerman on vault (8.8).
Springfield’s Jose Chasse turned in the highest mark of the meet of 9.375 on still rings in posting the lone win for the Pride (0-1).
The Black Knights beat the Pride in five of the six events in the team scoring, setting season highs on parallel bars (33.45) and high bar (32.55), breaking the 200 mark for the first time this season.
"We hit better than we did at the West Point Open," said head coach Doug Van Everen, "but we missed too many sets. We have a tough schedule ahead of us, and need to do better in order to win."
The Black Knights will be in Colorado today and Saturday to participate at the two-day Rocky Mountain Open hosted by Air Force.
