Contractor to conduct Gypsy Moth spraying

WEST POINT, N.Y. -- A contractor working under the direction of the academy’s Directorate of Housing and Public Works’ Natural Resources Branch will conduct a one-day aerial application of Bacillus thuringiensis insecticide to control gypsy moths at West Point.

The spraying, scheduled for mid-May, will involve more than 650 acres in the southeastern portion of the reservation in the vicinity of Camp Shea.

Low-flying aircraft could be visible from the Palisades Interstate Parkway and Fort Montgomery. DHPW officials said the spraying would prevent forest defoliation and the resulting negative effects on forest health and military training.
