What's the scoop?
The Black Knights (0-3) continue the C-USA portion of their schedule Saturday when they host Southern Miss (3-1, 1-0). Here are a few tidbits about the Golden Eagles:
-- Golden Eagles senior running back Derrick Nix, the nation’s ninth-leading rusher with 531 yards on 78 carries, good for a 6.81 yard per carry average. He also has seven rushing TDs.
-- Redshirt sophomore QB Micky D’Angelo completed only 8-of-27 passes for a season-low of 110 yards and one interception in Saturday’s 20-7 loss to Alabama. D’Angelo is 52-of-101 for 722 yards, 3 TDs, and 2 INTs.
-- Redshirt senior LeRoy Handy and sophomore Marvin Young are D’Angelo’s favorite targets to date. Handy has snared 19 balls for 254 yards, while Young eight catches for 151 yards and three TDs.
-- Defensively, the Golden Eagles feature another in a long line of tough stop units. Linebackers redshirt sophomore Michael Boley and redshirt junior Rod Davis lead the defense. Boley has a team-best 49 tackles (34 solo, 15 assists) and Davis, though slowed due to injury, follows with 48 (33, 15). Boley posted the Golden Eagles only score against the Crimson Tide returning an INT 54 yards for a TD. He also has five tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and one pass break up. Davis leads the team with 9.5 tackles for loss and six sacks. He also swiped a pass against Alabama returning it 27 yards.
-- This is only the third meeting between Southern Miss. and Army. Army is 0-2-0 in the series. This will be the first time third-year Army coach Todd Berry faces the Golden Eagles.
