Tae kwon do team earns first national champion

WEST POINT -- In order to qualify to attend the 29th annual United States Tae kwon do Championships, held May 21-26 in New Orleans, fighters must obtain a top three finish in their state championships or obtain a top three finish in the Collegiate National Championships.

The Martial Arts team qualified 13 cadets for nationals this year of which seven of our best fighters attended.

Sophomore Jon McCary sailed through a tough bracket eliminating all his opponents in an impressive display of will and determination. He sent his first opponent to the mat with a left leg spinning hook kick to the jaw ending the match with a knock out. McCary continued to systematically destroy his opponents one at a time until finally winning the gold medal with an impressive 11 to 3 victory.
