West Point grad helps rebuild Iraq clinic
A 101st Airborne lieutenant travels along a rutted road to the Avgani Primary Health Care Center, a postwar aid station he helped renovate. 1st Lt. Michael Lefler, a West Point Class of 2000 graduate, is the executive officer of Battery B, 3rd Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).

Lennox argues case to keep post school
West Point Superintendent Lt. Gen. William H. Lennox Jr., was among the officers and students arguing the case Oct. 16 against closing defense department schools.

2001 graduate dies during Iraq firefight
U.S. Military Academy Class of 2001 graduate, 1st Lt. David R. Bernstein, 24, of Phoenixville, P., died as a result of enemy forces ambushing his patrol using rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire. 

West Point's ADCO chief wins award
George Chagalis, director of the Army Center for Substance Abuse Programs, recently awarded West Point's ADCO chief, John Capen, the 2003 Employee Assistance Program Coordinator of the year award. The award recognizes "outstanding performance of duties in support of the Army substance abuse program at the installation level worldwide."

Facing challenges
John Morgan, a mathematician in West Point’s foreign language department, knows challenges well. He faces them everyday in the form of simple tasks like dressing, cooking and working. John Morgan is blind.

Army men, women run over Navy
Paced by sophomore Ashley Urick’s decisive victory, Army’s women’s cross country team placed seven runners in the Top 10 positions Oct. 17 en route to a dominating 18-41 triumph over arch-rival Navy here.
