The U.S. Military Academy will hold its Seventh
Annual Community Fair Aug. 4. The event will be held in the ballroom at Eisenhower Hall
from 6-9 p.m.
According to Becky Rosen, this years community fair coordinator, more information than ever will be available for newly assigned personnel.
"Many on-post organizations like DHPW [housing] and DCFA [family activities] will join local community organizations in providing information to the newcomers," Rosen said.
Numerous organizations and activities will be setup throughout the ballroom and offer pamphlets, brochures and information papers on the various services available both on and off post. During the fair USMA Superintendent Lt. Gen. Daniel W. Christman will brief all newly assigned personnel. That briefing is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Eisenhower Hall Theater.
George Toth, West Points director of Army Community Services, said the event is important for both the information it offers and the feelings it creates.
"This event is important because it serves as a catalyst for success," Toth said. "It enhances the many values of community and family wellness, communication and togetherness."
West Points garrison commander, Col. Arnold Smith, echoes that sentiment.
"The fair fosters a feeling of belonging to the community," Smith said. "One of the most important things for people to do when they arrive at a new installation is to become involved and get to know the community. This fair offers the perfect chance to do just that."
The fair also fosters a feeling of "one team, one community," said Toth.
"This is a great and wonderful West Point and Highland Falls community gathering," he explained. "People can not only get information about post services, they can get an idea of whats available in the local communities."
