WEST POINT PROFESSORS RECEIVE HISPANIC AWARD – Aug. 29, 2007

WEST POINT N.Y – Lt. Col. Fernando Maymi, an assistant professor in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department along with Maj. Melinda Kalainoff, Academy Professor in the Chemistry and Life Sciences Department here received the 2007 Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Award Corporation luminary award.

Each year HENAAC presents awards to military personnel for their contributions in technical and professional achievement as well as recognizing their contributions to the Hispanic community, according to the HENAAC Web site.

Maymi, who is taking courses in computer science, computer engineering and biology as part of his Ph.D studies in Puerto Rico said the best part of his work here is the people.  “It’s the amazing group of people with whom I’ve had the honor of working with who make it all worthwhile,” he said.

Kalainoff said the recognition is flattering. “It is very gratifying to be well thought of by your co-workers and colleagues,” she said.  The award recipients will be presented at the 2007 annual career conference and awards show Oct. 12, in San Diego, Calif.
