WEST POINT, N.Y. -- The Army cycling team competed and won the Division II National Championships, this past weekend, at the USA National Collegiate Track Cycling competition in San Diego, Calif.

Track Cycling is also known as Olympic Cycling and is raced in a velodrome.  Over 50 colleges and universities had riders participating in various events.  Sixteen cadets from West Point competed.

West Point scored points in eight of 11 events, more than any other Division II team, and earned a total of 864 points out of a possible 990 point maximum.

Col. Italo Bastinelli, the Army cycling coach, and winner of a recent National Masters 200 Meter Sprint, also celebrated a win during the competition for an exhibition race between coaches in attendance.
