TWO CADETS SELECTED AS GATES CAMBRIDGE SCHOLARS – Feb. 14, 2008

 

       WEST POINT, N.Y. – Two U.S. Military Academy cadets have been awarded the Gates Cambridge Scholarship for the 2008-09 academic year and continue their education for one year at Cambridge.

       Cadet Michael McMahon of Farmingville, N.Y. is a Life Science major who plans to earn a MPhil in Public Health.

       Cadet Robert Rose of Los Angeles, Calif., is a double major in International Relations and Foreign Languages (French and Russian) who will earn a MPhil in International Relations.

       The Gates Cambridge Scholarship was founded by a charitable donation from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.  It targets future international leaders who will play leading roles in resolving problems of global health, equity, technology, and learning in their respective countries.  The award initiated in October 2001 has offered 726 scholarships to students representing 85 different countries.
