FOREIGN ACADEMY EXCHANGE PROGRAM

The USMA Foreign Academy Exchange Program (FAEP) has been sending cadets to different foreign military academies since 1958 during their spring break to allow them the opportunity to learn about life in other countries. This year 60 cadets visited 30 different countries around the world from Argentina to Uruguay.

The program is meant to foster and maintain good will and establish relationships with other nations. All cadets, with the exception of fouth-class cadets, can participate with approval from the Dean and their tactical officer. Cadets must also have a working knowledge of the language of the host country.

The visits vary in each country, but each cadet gains a cultural exchange of ideas and values from the experience. Cadets attend classes and join in during military exercises with the cadets from the host country. Many also have an opportunity for fun and sight-seeing during their stay.

Immersion into another culture includes tasting a variety of new foods. Cadets Clayton Merkley and Dmitry Shekyman do just that with one of their Ukrainian cadet escorts.

Cadets Dan Lessard, Derek Mitchel, Walter Vogel and Amber Welch spent spring break at the French Military Academy 'L'ecole Speciale Militaire' at St. Cyr. While there they enjoyed a variety of French cuisine with St. Cyr cadets.

MOLDOVA

A visit to the Moldovan Military Museum was a must for learning more about the independence of this eastern European country.

Cadets Russell Barr and Raffi Mnatzakanianinto spent their FAEP trip immersed in Moldovan culture with cadets from the Institutul Militar Al Fortele Armate "Alexandru Cel Bun".
