Don't know how to ski? No problem.

The Victor Constant Ski Slope served as the site of an Amateur Ski Instructor Association certification event Jan. 4-7 and most of the participants were West Point community members.

The event provides an opportunity for people to certify for amateur ski credentials or to refresh skills, ASIA officials said.

"The Amateur Ski Instruction Association is the ski club’s ski school, meaning it’s dedicated to providing clubs with qualified instructors for the purposes of safety and learning," said ASIA Executive Director Bill Hornbeck.

Amateur instructors, like the ones at West Point, are qualified to assist and train entry-level skiers, he added.

"The key to our success is actually what we do out on the hill and who we have doing it," he said. "By building a basic foundation we help people improve in the sport the right way -- from the ground up."
