Yale sweeps Army swimmers

Yale limited Army to a combined three individual winners in sweeping the men’s and women’s swimming and diving meets at Payne Whitney Gymnasium Sunday afternoon.

Junior Mike Vahle and sophomore Dan Downs captured first-place finishes in the men’s 128-102 loss, while freshman Danika Dumbleton was the lone winner for the Army women in a 126-97 setback.

Vahle placed first in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.77 seconds, while Downs won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:08.34. George Gleason was a triple winner for the Bulldogs (3-0), capturing the 200 free, 200 individual medley and 100 free.

Dumbleton also won the 200 breast, touching first in 2:28.89. The lone multiple winner for the Yale women (4-0) was Bates Gregory, who was first in both the one and three-meter diving events.

The Army men (4-4) and women (4-3) return to action Saturday against Pennsylvania. The meet begins at noon at Crandall Pool here.
