The Kilbride family (from left to right): Sean, Thomas, Katharyn and John. This is the 10th time in 10 years that the Kilbride family has attended a West Point graduation. |
Like any other family that has a graduating cadet, the Kilbride’s came to West Point Saturday to watch their son Thomas receive his commission as a second lieutenant.
The only difference between this family and other U.S. Military Academy cadet families, is this is the 10th time the Kilbride’s have attended a West Point graduation since their daughter Katharyn came here as a freshman in 1992.
Sandra and Charles Kilbride, who served in the Marine Corps for 27 years and retired as a major, his daughter Katharyn said, are parents of four USMA graduates.
Sean Kilbride (class of ‘99) is a first lieutenant and "captain select," his father Charles added.
" I just came back from Korea and now I’m stationed in Fort Meade [Maryland] with the 902nd Military Intelligence. I was an assistant S3 in Korea," Sean said.
Capt. Katharyn Kilbride-Hiebert (class of ‘96) has just returned from duty in Korea. Her husband Maj. Tom Hiebert (class of ‘87) is currently stationed at the DMZ, Camp Greaves in Korea, but will be returning to Washington D.C., shortly she said.
"My son has eleven aunts and uncles in the Army, and ten of them came from West Point," Sandra said.
Capt. John Kilbride, (class of ‘97) is in the 173rd Airborne Brigade. John said the decision to attend West Point was a "no-brainer" to him.
"Any general who did anything went to the USMA," he said.
Thomas Kilbride (class of ‘02) is also planning on the airborne as his choice of duty.
"My first duty, after officer’s school, will be at Fort Bragg and I will be joining the 82nd Airborne Division," he said. "I like jumping out of planes."
