Former First Captain returns for Women's History Month event
The West Point community celebrated Women’s History Month March 2 with a dinner at the Regimental Room in Washington Hall.  West Point’s first woman to head the Corps of Cadets here, Maj. Kristin Baker, spoke to participants about leadership. Baker graduated in 1990.   

President authorizes remainder of federal raise
President Bush issued an executive order Wednesday officially releasing the rest of the 2004 percent average pay raise for civilian employees.

Ried expands potential as leader through Iraq experience
Among many Soldiers ending their one-year deployment in Iraq and returning home at the beginning of this year is Sgt. James Ried of the U.S. Military Academy Engineer Platoon.  

Saldivar continues to inspire, guide cadets after 38 years
Almost 38 years ago a young instructor donned a rankless  military uniform and began a journey of teaching cadets the finer points of Hispanic language and culture. Endless classes and a couple of cadet generations later, the fire and enthusiasm of the U.S. Military Academy’s Department of Foreign Language Instructor, Samuel G. Saldivar, still burns brightly.   

CME Department involved in 'Project discovery'
Three faculty members in the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering departed for Morocco March 5 to build a Roman Ram-Tortoise battering ram for a Discovery Channel segment on “Ancient Weapons.”  

Lacrosse edges Air Force in OT 11-10, blows out Holy Cross 16-7
Army scored twice in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter and then ripped the game-winner 48 seconds into overtime to rally past No. 14 Air Force, 11-10, Saturday afternoon in front of 1,249 fans at Shea Stadium. It was the 11th consecutive victory over the Falcons for the Black Knights, who remain perfect against their service-academy rivals in the overall series.  

48th Brigade Boxing Open crowns 13 champions
Thirteen champions were crowned March 5 at the 48th annual Brigade Boxing Open Championships at Holleder Center’s Christl Arena. An estimated 1,200 spectators were on hand to witness the event, which was also aired live on the local command channel.
