USMA Human Subjects Research Protection Program (HRPP)

Guiding Principles:

As the premier institution of leader development in the nation, West Point strives to ensure the highest level of ethical practice in all facets of research activity. To that end, West point fully subscribes to the three principles of respect for persons, beneficence, and justice, as outlined in the 1979 National Commission for the Protection of Human Subjects of Biomedical and Behavioral Research known as the Belmont Report.

The Human Subjects Research Protection Program at West Point works to

•    Promote ethical research practice within the organization by being a partner in the research process.

•    Advocates ethical research that is open to collaboration across and among departments and institutions.

•    Supports a culture of ethical practice that includes ongoing education and training for cadets, faculty, and staff.

•    Ensures regulatory compliance with ethical, professional, and lawful treatment of human subjects when engaged in research.
