By living and learning among other people and cultures, cadets have an opportunity to turn old perceptions and beliefs into new understandings. Bridging the classroom-'real world' divide is important to West Point cadets as they make decisions in their personal lives and within the military structure, often while serving internationally in times of war or national crisis.The Department of Systems Engineering provides opportunities for cadets to study abroad.
 
Cadets can play a vital role in studying problems of interest to the both the US government and the host nation while facilitating relationships with international partners. The SM major requires a total of 40 courses allowing cadets the opportunity to pursue an engineering major while also studying abroad. Department Academic Advisors are available to help cadets with scheduling and graduation requirement questions.
