The Social Sciences Department interacts with every cadet at West Point through three core classes that are essential building blocks of a liberal arts education. Economics (SS201) presents the basic principles of economic analysis and how they apply to contemporary economic problems. American Politics (SS202) explores the American political system, with a special emphasis on American civilian-military relations. International Relations (SS307) studies state behavior and factors contributing to cooperation or competition in the international system.
The Social Sciences Department offers three academic programs (American Politics, Economics, and International Affairs) and two minors (Grand Strategy and Terrorism Studies). Interested cadets should visit the Programs pages above to find out more information about the majors and reach out to the various academic counselors.
