CPT Michael J Naylor served in the Utah National Guard as a Counterintelligence Agent, where he earned an Associates of Arts in the Arabic Language from the Defense Language Institute. He later graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Middle East Studies with an emphasis on Arabic, and commissioned as a Field Artillery Officer. He served as a Fire Support Officer and Battalion Targeting Officer with 1/503d, 173d BCT (AIRBORNE), at Vicenza, Italy. He completed a 12 month tour to Wardak Province, Afghanistan in 2010. Upon completing his branch detail he returned to the Military Intelligence branch, where he served as a Battalion Intelligence Officer with the 1/503d and later with 1st Battalion, 3d Special Forces Group, where he completed a 9 month tour in the Regional Command East area of Afghanistan. He then served as the Military Intelligence Detachment Commander, where he completed another 6 month tour in Afghanistan.
CPT Naylor earned a Masters of Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and is currently an instructor of Economics at the United States Military Academy.
CPT Naylor’s military education includes the Basic Arabic Course, Counterintelligence Basic Course, the Basic Officer Leaders Course, Field Artillery Basic Course, Ranger School, Airborne School, The Joint Firepower Controller Course, Air Movement Operations Course, and the Military Intelligence Officer Advanced Course.
