Hugh Liebert is an assistant professor of American politics in the Department of Social Sciences at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. A recent John Marshall visiting research fellow in the Jepson School of Leadership Studies at the University of Richmond, he received his BA from Harvard University and his MA and PhD from the Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago. His primary areas of interest are the history of political thought and American politics. He is the author of “Plutarch’s Politics,” a book-length manuscript that won the 2013 Delba Winthrop Award for Excellence in Political Science. He is the coeditor of Executive Power in Theory and Practice (2012, Palgrave Macmillan), Thinking Beyond Boundaries (2014, Johns Hopkins University Press), and American Grand Strategy and the Future of U.S. Landpower (forthcoming, U.S. Army War College Press). His articles have appeared in History of Political Thought and the Review of Politics. He is currently writing a book on religion in Gibbon’s Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, titled Religion Around Gibbon, which is under contract with Pennsylvania State University Press.
