Hugh Liebert is an associate professor of political science in the Department of Social Sciences at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York. His primary areas of interest are the history of political thought and American politics and foreign policy. He is the author of Plutarch’s Politics (Cambridge University Press, 2016), which won the Delba Winthrop Award for Excellence in Political Science, and he has edited five volumes, including Thinking Beyond Boundaries: Transnational Challenges to U.S. Foreign Policy (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2014) and Executive Power in Theory and Practice (Palgrave Macmillan, 2012). His recent articles include “The Achaean League and the American Founding” (History of Political Thought) and “Mid-Life Crisis: The AVF at Forty” (with James Golby) (Armed Forces & Society).  His current book project examines the role of religion in Edward Gibbon’s Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.
