Joe Quinn is an Associate at the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point and an Instructor in the Department of Social Sciences, U.S. Military Academy, West Point. Previously, Joe worked in Afghanistan as a Counterinsurgency Advisor for COMISAF’s Counterinsurgency Advisory and Assistance Team (CAAT), concentrating on reconciliation and the Afghan Local Police (ALP). He spent six years in the United States Army, where he served two deployments in Iraq. During his first deployment (2003-2004), he served as a platoon leader for the 3rd Armored Calvary Regiment in Al Anbar Province. His second deployment was during “The Surge” (2006-2008) where he served as a Battle Captain for the Reconciliation and Engagements Cell (REC) that spawned the Sons of Iraq (SOI) program.
