Major Seth A. Johnston, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of International Relations in the Department of Social Sciences at the United States Military Academy, West Point.   He teaches undergraduate courses in European and international politics, and also serves on the Academy's Scholarship Committee which selects and prepares cadets to compete for the Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, and other nationally-competitive scholarships.



Major Johnston has served the majority of his military career overseas.  He was intelligence officer for the first NATO multinational infantry battalion task force in Afghanistan under Romanian leadership; Chief of International Military Intelligence Cooperation at the U.S. Army Europe Headquarters, responsible for military-to-military engagements throughout Europe and

Eurasia; and Commander of B Company, U.S. 2nd Military Intelligence Battalion, in Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands.  Major Johnston also served as a staff aide at the U.S. Military Delegation to NATO in Brussels, and as an arms control policy official at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C.
