Seth A. Johnston, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of International Relations at West Point.  He teaches courses in comparative and international politics; and is Executive Secretary of the USMA Graduate Scholarship Program which prepares cadets for internationally competitive postgraduate scholarships.
Major Johnston has spent the majority of his military career overseas, specializing in multi-national operations and security cooperation.  He was intelligence officer for the first Romanian-led NATO infantry battalion task force in Afghanistan; Chief of International Military Intelligence Cooperation at the U.S. Army Europe Headquarters; and a Company Commander in the U.S. 2nd Military Intelligence Battalion in Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands.  Major Johnston also served as a staff aide at the U.S. Military Delegation to NATO in Brussels, and as an arms control policy official at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. 
Major Johnston earned a doctorate in International Relations and an M.Phil. degree in European Politics, both from Oxford University, where he was a Marshall Scholar.  He commissioned from West Point with a B.S. in Political Science, European Studies, and Nuclear Engineering.
