Shea Stadium
Army's Shea Stadium outdoor track and field facility ranks as one of the finest
in the East. In the summer of 1998 a brand new eight-lane Martin track surface
was installed, with bounce a major consideration. "The early reviews from
fall usage have been fabulous," says head coach Jerry Quiller. "The
runners really like the cushion and the sprinters are psyched about their fast
times." With six long jump/triple jump runways, four pole vault runways,
two shot put sectors and two Olympic discus/hammer throw venues, Army will not
only be able to host the largest of meets, but will have the added benefit of
more productive practices with little conflict. A new state-of-the-art timing
system allows the Cadets to run either direction on the track and have photo
finishes.
