The national organization of the Society of Women Engineers, founded in 1950,
is a non-profit, educational service organization of graduate engineers and
women and men with equivalent engineering experience, dedicated to the advancement
of women in the engineering profession. It is a prestigious national organization
numbering in the thousands with international membership. The purposes of a
student chapter of SWE at USMA are:
-To encourage young women cadets to enter the engineering to
engineering-related majors or fields of study at USMA and to provide
a
professional support mechanism for these women.
-To inform women cadets of the qualifications and achievements
of women
engineers and scientists.
-To inform women cadets of the opportunities open to them as engineers
in the Army and also in the remainder of their careers of service
to
the nation.
