In her ninth season as Director of the Cadet Glee Club of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Constance Chase is a conductor, performer and voice teacher of considerable note. Under her direction, the Glee Club has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Tanglewood and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, completed concert tours of the East and West Coasts, performed at Ground Zero on the first anniversary of the World Trade Center tragedy, appeared with the Boston Pops, the U.S. Army Band, and the Syracuse and Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestras, given scores of concerts annually throughout the United States and produced three new recordings: the DVD/CD Stand Ye Steady (2005) with guest artists Lea Salonga and Daniel Rodriguez; the CD Voice of the Corps (2003), the choir's first full-length release since 1966; and the original hymn Mansions of the Lord for the closing credits of the Paramount feature film We Were Soldiers (2002). The Glee Club's most recent recording activity took place on October 10, 2007, when the group recorded for country artist Trace Adkins' forthcoming CD due for release in June 2008. Under her direction, the Glee Club is in frequent demand for nationally televised appearances by invitation of the BCS National Championship, the Fiesta Bowl, the Breeders Cup, Yankee Stadium, Super Bowl XXXIX, Madison Square Garden, and Lifetime Network.
Ms. Chase is Artistic Director of the newly formed Hudson Valley Chorale comprised of avocational singers from southern New York and New Jersey now in its premiere season. She serves on the adjunct faculty of Western Connecticut State University's School of Visual and Performing Arts, teaching Applied Voice and Voice Workshop. She is co-author with Shirlee Emmons of Prescriptions for Choral Excellence, Oxford University Press (2006). The book for choral directors and singers applies new principles of voice science, leadership and performance psychology to the choral setting. A lyric soprano and accomplished soloist in recital and chamber works, Ms. Chase has also performed and served as rehearsal assistant with The Riverside Choral Society in New York City, Patrick Gardner, Director, most notably in its critically acclaimed Mostly Mozart Festival appearances under the direction of Louis Langree, Nicholas McGegan and Gerard Schwarz. Her private voice students are state and national award winners of NATS, MTNA and NFAA competitions
Pianist Darren Motise began his musical training at age eight. While in high school he attended the Juilliard School's renowned Pre-College division and by the age of eighteen made his New York City recital debut at Town Hall. He has since performed in solo and collaborative recitals worldwide. He received a Master's degree from the Juilliard School where he was a recipient of the William Petscheck memorial scholarship. Among the many concert and educational festivals attended, he was awarded a fellowship to study at Leonard Bernstein's Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo, Japan where he performed in recital with the Vienna Philharmonic principal players. Mr. Motise was recently seen on Broadway as a featured actor opposite Dixie Carter in Terrence McNally's Tony Award winning play Master Class, about the life of Maria Callas, and later joined the National Tour starring Faye Dunaway.
He has served as music theater director for various regional companies including Coconut Grove Playhouse in Miami, Hartford Theaterworks, and Oklahoma City Lyric Theater. He also directed and performed in the Korean-language production of "Master Class" at the Seoul Performing Arts Center and has served as assistant artistic talent scout for Cirque du Soleil. An accomplished organist, choir director and liturgical musician, Mr. Motise currently serves as music director at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Poughkeepsie, New York.
Lieutenant Colonel Rodney X. Sturdivant, Ph.D. is a 1986 graduate of West Point and Glee Club alumni (also part of the Glee Club Headliners group). He also earned Master of Science degrees in Statistics and in Operations Research from Stanford in 1995 and a Ph.D. in Biostatistics from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst in 2005. He served in a variety of leadership and staff positions in the Ordnance branch and as an Operations Research analyst. He is currently an Academy Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences. LTC Sturdivant and his wife, Mandy, will soon celebrate their 20th anniversary and have two children: Chelsea, a freshman at Grove City College and Steven (12). Musically, he still sings and also plays the violin (passionately if not well) and was instrumental in starting a cadet string ensemble at West Point.
