CHESS Cadet Bovey Zhu, 2008, was featured on Regis and Kelly Live (ABC) as one of 10 players simultaneously playing Nicholas Nip, 10 years old, the youngest US chess master in history. Cadet Dave Jacobs was too highly rated to participate in the exhibition, but he was interviewed by Chess Life Magazine. |

SAILING The Sailing Team battled Mother Nature in a frigid two-day qualifying regatta on Lake Seneca in Geneva, NY 29 and 30 March. |

MEN'S
VOLLEYBALL The Men's Volleyball team competed in their final EIVA league divisional on Saturday, March 29 at Hot Shots in Rochester, N.Y. The team took on five opponents from the EIVA North and this is, starting the day off strong with a wins over Syracuse and Cornell. |

MODEL
ARAB LEAGUE TEAM The Model Arab League Team, representing the Republic of Iraq, captured its second - back to back - National Championship last week in Washington D.C. at the Model Arab League National Competition. Out of seven councils, USMA won first place in 3 of them: the Council of Arab Economic Affairs, Council of Arab Social Affairs, and the Council of Arab Heads of State. |

SKI
TEAM IN GRAY Cadets Walton, Burke, Ladny and Krause from the Ski Club proudly express their love of Dress Grey while skiing at Mont Tremblant, Canada over MLK weekend 2008. Temperatures of -27 F did not diminish their motivation for skiing USMA style, but it sure made them hurry back to the lodge. Makes even the coldest morning formation seem cozy. |

JUDO
TEAM The Judo Team’s trip to Japan was the most successful trip section we have ever taken and one which all members will remember for the rest of their lives. Highlights from the trip include: Dual match with the National Defense Academy (NDA) – several individual wins and 2 ties. Judo training in the Kodokan, the original dojo of Judo. We shared a mat with 5 Olympic/World Champs. Judo Training in the Imperial Palace Dojo with the Japanese Emperor’s personal security, who are considered some of the most elite judo players in all of Japan. |

ALPINE
SKIING
Cadet Matt Talley from the Ski Club takes flight off a jump at Mont Tremblant over MLK weekend 2008. The priceless landing, 30 feet later, was unfortunately one half rotation shy of a perfect flip. Cadet Talley did manage to walk away from it, eventually. |

FENCING
TEAM On Wed March 5th, the Commandant officially welcomed the West Point/RMC fencing trophy back to Arvin Gym. This trophy is awarded each year after a direct competition between the RMC and USMA fencing teams, a tradition begun in 1983 by the graduating fencers from both Academies. The rivalry currently stands at USMA 12 victories and RMC 11. The trophy will remain in Arvin Gym until this November, when once again our Black Knights will defend the title against the Paladins of RMC. |

POWERLIFTING
TEAM The powerlifting team had a successful day with six team members achieving totals that qualify them for the national competition. Twelve team members were already qualified and supported their teammates. Five of the six who qualified adjusted weight classes requiring new qualifying totals to best posture the team for success at the national meet. |

ORIENTEERING
TEAM CHAMPS Orienteering successfully defended their position as the Intercollegiate Team Championships in Tucson Arizona. This marks the 6th straight year West Point one their Nationals and is the Intercollegiate Team Champions. The Junior Varsity Team also won their category! |

NORDIC
SKI Nordic Ski competed in a USCSA Regional Championships at Waterville Valley, New Hampshire. Race events included a men's and a woman's 15 km classic race, a 1.5 km classic sprint race, and a 8.5 km freestyle race. The men's team finished third overall and the women's team finished 5th overall against seven other competing teams. This performance enabled both teams to qualify for the USCSA National Championships |

MOUNTAINEERING
Cadet Mountaineering Team took three team members and two DPE instructors on an ice-climbing trip in the Catskills. The climbing occurred in an area known as Moore’s Bridge around Tannersville, NY with experience of the group ranging from beginner to advanced. Throughout the day, they learned new skills and techniques from our own group as well as from observing other groups climbing nearby. |

ORIENTEERING
CHAMPS The orienteering team successfully defended their position as the Intercollegiate Team Championships in Tucson Arizona. This marks the 6th straight year West Point is the Intercollegiate Team Champions. The Junior Varsity Team also won their category! Three cadets, as a result of their outstanding results were automatically selected to represent the United States Team at the World University Orienteering Championships this summer, 28 July 3 Aug, in Tartu Estonia. Congratulations! The future looks bright for the team seeing that our top three performers at this event were a Plebe and two Yearlings. |

ALINE
SKI TEAM ON THE MOVE The Alpine ski team traveled to Whiteface NY recently. The Men’s Alpine Ski team took 4th place in Giant Slalom and 5th place in Slalom. The Women’s Alpine Ski team took 5th place in Giant Slalom and 6th place in the Slalom. |

MEN'S
VOLLEYBALL After finishing in the top of the NECVL league the past couple of years, the men's club volleyball team decided to move to the EIVA North Division. The stronger competition will drive the team toward their ultimate goal of a national championship. |

GLEE
CLUB PERFORMANCE The Glee Club peformed for over 200 people at the Stamford Central School in Stamford, New York. The Stamford community has graciously hosted the Glee Club annually since 1998. The original concert in 1998 was spearheaded by the parents of Aaron Miller, class of 1999, and Glee Club member. Once again, the Stamford audience was gracious and very pleased with the performance. |

NORDIC SKI TEAM The Army Nordic Ski team raced 26-27 January at Mountain Meadows Nordic Resort, near Killington, Vermont. The team competed in 5k skate races and 3x 2k Relay races on Saturday 26 January, and a 10k skiathlon (5k skate, 5k classical) race on Sunday 27 January. |

ALPINE
SKI TEAM The Alpine Ski Team competed at Song Mountain in Tully NY this past weekend. It was the first race of the season for the team. Highlights from the weekend include the following: The women’s team took 6th place overall in the Slalom race. In the individual events, 1st Class cadets led the team as Katie Trip took 11th out of 48 racers and Chris Landers took 24th out 55 in their respective Slalom races. |

THEATRE
ARTS GUILD On Sunday, Jan 13, eighteen cadets from the Theatre Arts Guild went to NY City to attend the "Behind the Scenes and On Stage" lecture for the New York Times Arts & Leisure Week. After the sold-out lecture with Broadway actors and Disney's Head of Theatrical Productions, the cadets spent the rest of the afternoon on an orientation tour of Manhattan and exploring the Metropolitan Museum of Art. |

ARMY
JUDO TEAM The USMA Judo Team participated in two events recently. The team ventured to Warwick, RI for its annual pilgrimage to the Mayo Quanchi Judo Club for a Winter Mini-Camp. The Mini-Camp consisted of over 100 judoka training together over a two day period. The team also traveled into Brooklyn to compete in the 15th Annual Starrett Cup Challenge. |

GOSPEL
CHOIR - MARTIN LUTHER KING MEMORIAL The Cadet Gospel Choir traveled to New York City to perform for the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial program at the Marble Collegiate Church. Outside of the numerous people positively influenced by the cadets performance and the cadet's impeccable poise and demeanor. The trip was a blast and the cadets performance purchased respect for West Point and the Army. |

MEN'S
TEAM HANDBALL Over Martin Luther King weekend, the Army Men’s Team Handball club hosted an international tournament that featured teams from four countries. With representation from Germany, Canada, Mexico, and the US, the West Point Invitational proved to be the most competitive tournament in North America’s history. Featuring professional and former professional handball players from all fourteen teams, the competition was top of line and West Point was proud to host the contest. |

GLEE
CLUB The West Point Cadet Glee Club performed before an audience of about 500 on Thursday, 6 December 2007, as part of the 46th Annual USO of Metropolitan New York Gala and Armed Forces Award Dinner. Some of the honorees at this event were ADM Michael Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the parents of LT Dan Murphy, USN, who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions in Afghanistan. |
